Job Chajes teaches klezmer playing for lead instruments. Any instrumentalist who wants to understand playing klezmer melodies, is welcome with Job for lessons on tone, timing and of course the crucial embellishments.
There is also the possibility to have Job as a band coach or workshopleader.
Job Chajes is frontman and co-founder of the Amsterdam Klezmer band. Always keen on keeping the klezmer roots firmly present in the band, Job is a lover of the traditional klezmer style.
He plays saxophone like a clarinettist and writes songs that sound like instant traditionals.
Apart from the AKB Job loves to play jazz music, Brazilian choro music and used to play baritone saxophone in an afrobeat band. At the present Job seriously composes music for his own Job Chajes Sextet aswell for cinema. Job finished the Codarts jazz conservatory in Rotterdam in 2005 and took many private lessons in music composition.
Gijs Levelt is Amsterdam Klezmer Band’s trumpet player for 25 years. He has a ton of experience in playing klezmer and Balkan music, jazz, pop, contemporary classical music, and different styles of world music and crossover. He studied improvised music at the Sweelinck Conservatory of Amsterdam.
Gijs teaches trumpet technique, style and repertoire, and improvisation to both adults and children of all levels. The central goals of his lessons are to increase and strengthen your musical imagination and to develop the technical ability to translate this imagination into music.
Gijs is also available for band coaching and the teaching of workshops.
Als uitvoerend musicus speelde ik meer dan 13 jaar bij Het Internationaal Danstheater. Dit gezelschap bespeelt alle grote theaters van Nederland. Joop van der Linden graduated in classical and jazz trombone at the Amsterdam School of the Arts.But equally important to him is the myriad of styles he got to know over the years, ranging from classical brass band, symphonic and contemporary music, jazz in all its forms, reggae and rock music, to a whole range of world music, African, Latin, Balkan, and of course the Amsterdam Klezmer Band. He has composed for brass bands, jazz bands, string quartets, and theatre plays, and his compositions for film have even been awarded internationally. Joop is also an experienced teacher, be it brass instruments, guitar, band coaching or music technology.
Jasper de Beer has been involved with the Amsterdam Klezmer Band since its foundation. In the first year he played on an acoustic bass guitar and he switched to double bass in 1997. In 2002 he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Jazz bass guitar at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, with double bass as a secondary subject. He has had lessons from, among others, Theo de Jong, Ernst Glerum, Ruud Ouwehand and Jan Hollestelle. In addition to bass guitar and double bass, Jasper also plays banjo guitar. He also composes for the AKB, his other band Naked Ears and for other projects.
Jasper de Beer is skilled in Jazz, Klezmer and Balkan, Funk and Afro grooves and odd meters. Laying down a solid foundation in music is one of his biggest priorities as a bass
player.
Jasper is also available for band coaching.
Janfie is Amsterdam Klezmer Band’s clarinet player since 1999. He offers a broad experience in playing klezmer and Balkan music, jazz, pop, world music and he likes to mix up styles. He studied saxophone at the conservatory and picked up the clarinet as soon he started his akb career. He’s been listening to a whole bunch of great musicians like Ivo Papasov, Benny Goodman, Jimi hendrix, Taraf de Haidouks, Naftule Brandwein,Kocani Orkestar, Chuck Berry, Big Jay mc Neely, Wayne Shorter, Perez Prado, Jackson do Pandeiro, Dave Taras, Selim Sesler, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane and many more for inspiration.
Janfie teaches clarinet and saxophone for all levels. He likes to help improve your technique, expand your repertoire in a broad musical horizon or to obtain more agility in improvising over balkan, jazz and oriental music. You want to combine klezmer with cumbia? he’s in!
